How To Start Building Your First Menu

Welcome to Happy Host!
We designed this page based on YOUR requests to make meal planning easier and the ability to custom tailor the menus. We also know how much of a pain-point holiday/shabbat/elevated hosting can be…So we set out to make it just a bit simpler. We are also building a community as we are all in this together. How many times do you ask a friend to share their favorite chicken recipe with you or their go-to dessert recipes that’s always a win? Well this is where we are sharing the best of the best all in one place. We have Prep + Rally recipes, contributed recipes from our favorite creators and chef’s and now you can share YOUR favorite recipes with the community. Add your favorite recipes here (all the way at the bottom) and we will test your recipe, photograph it and add it to the site with your credit. Let’s build this together and make life simpler and more delicious because we all want to be Happy Hosts 🙂
We’ve made a little walkthrough video to show you some of the features Happy Host has to offer. Click here to watch!
Below are instructions on how to best use the DIY meal planning feature and we hope it takes the stress out of hosting.
How to save a recipe:
When browsing any recipes in the Happy Host page or Happy Host category in the RECIPES page (for the time being only these recipes are compatible with our new meal planning building feature), look for the “Save This Recipe” button on the recipe card. Click that button to add recipe to your INBOX.

After clicking “Save Recipe” your recipe will be saved in the “Inbox” as a default.
How to create a new menu:
In order to create a new menu, all you need to do is click “Create a New Menu” right under “My Saved Recipes” on the Happy Host home page. You can then select “New Menu” and title your menu according to the occasion.
If you wanted to create menus for multiple days of the week we advise you to use the ” Empty Holiday Meal Plan” for ease. You can then edit the titles, remove any days you don’t need and build your weekly meal plan from there.

Adding Recipes to your Menus:
To add a recipes to your menu, click into your menu.
You will see “Recipes” in bold, below “Click to set name.” We recommend you use this tool to note any allergies, or notes to accompany you throughout the occasion.

Hover over the + sign next to “Click to set name” or click Add Item below and it will say “Add item”. It will then let you select any recipe you previously saved in your “Inbox”.
This tool will also allow you to search any recipe from the Happy Host Category on the website, add your own custom recipe, or add a note. Add as many recipes as you’d like by continuing to click the + sign.

How to update serving size:
To customize your serving size, use the plus and minus icons below the recipe to adjust how many people the recipe will serve.

How to remove a recipe:
To remove a recipe from your Saved Recipes, once inside your menu click the three dots at the bottom left of the recipe box and select “Remove Item”.

How to add an additional menu for another meal:
You can do this by either creating a whole new menu from the happy host page (same instruction as above) or if you’re already creating a menu and want to add an additional menu for the same weekend or holiday for example, here is how to do that:
When you’re viewing your current menu that you’ve built, click on “Add Column” on the right, set your new name for this meal and start adding recipes to your new menu.

How to create a grocery list:
When you’ve completed your menu, tap on the grocery cart located at the top right of the page. Select any or all of the “Collections” or menus you want to include in this grocery list by hitting “Select All”, adjust any serving sized below if you haven’t done so yet and then click the grocery cart again. Your grocery list will then populate. You can edit your grocery list by tapping on the pencil and paper at the top right. You can also share a link by tapping on the chain at the top right or print the list by hitting the printer.

Your menus will always save on your account and will only be visible to you as these are private/customized menus.
