How I Reset on Sundays: Meals, Movement, and Mindset

There’s something sacred about Sundays in the summer. Slow mornings, warm sunshine, and finally—space to breathe. During the school year, we’re sprinting from one basketball or soccer game to the next, juggling snack duty, drop-offs, and trying to fit in a grocery run somewhere in between. But summer Sundays hit different.

They’re calmer. We sleep in a little later, ease into the day, and finally have the chance to start the week with intention.

I’ve started treating Sundays as my personal reset. Not in a pressure-filled, “change-your-whole-life” kind of way—but in small, sustainable steps that shift my mindset and help me feel fueled and focused for the week ahead. I think of it like my soft launch into Monday: movement that feels good, food that energizes me, and time outside that fills my soul.

What Sundays Look Like Right Now

✨ Movement that feels joyful
I’ve been prioritizing daily movement, but on Sundays I lean into what feels good rather than what has to get done. That might mean a hike with the kids, a family swim, or even just some time in the sauna followed by a short stretch. Getting my body moving—sweating a little, even for 20 minutes—has made a massive difference in my energy and mood for the rest of the week.

✨ Food that fuels, not restricts
Sunday is my chance to prep a few staples for the week—things I know I’ll grab when I’m rushing out the door. I’ve been leaning into high-protein, whole-food options that are easy and delicious. Think:

  • Baked Egg Sweet Potato Boats
Great for breakfast or a grab-and-go snack packed with protein and fiber.

  • 4 cobs corns shucked
  • cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 large limes juiced
  • 3 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • ¾ teaspoon chili powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt or to taste
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper or to taste

  • 2, 15 ounce cans black eyed peas
  • 1 ½ bell pepper diced
  • 1 red onion finely diced
  • ¼ bunch cilantro chopped
  • 1 jalapeno minced – optional

Instructions

  • Add corn cobs to a large pot and fill with water. Bring to a boil over high heat on the stovetop. Reduce the heat to a low boil and allow the corn to cook for about 10-12 minutes.
  • Remove the corn from the hot water and transfer to an ice bath for 5 minutes. Once cool, slice the kernels off the cob.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the olive oil, lime juice, white vinegar, honey, chili powder, salt and pepper. Add the cups corn kernels, black beans, black eyed peas, bell pepper, red onion, cilantro, and jalapeno if using. Toss to combine and coat the ingredients with the dressing at the bottom of the bowl.

✨ Mindset that sticks
Sundays are also when I check in with myself: What do I need more of this week? What do I need to let go of? Instead of writing a strict to-do list, I try to set intentions. More time outside. More water. More moments that feel slow and connected.

Sunday Adventures We’re Loving This Summer

One of the biggest mindset shifts I’ve made is looking at movement and family time as one in the same. Instead of trying to “fit in a workout,” we do things that get us moving as a family—and we’ve discovered so many incredible spots around L.A. that make Sundays extra special. A few favorites:

  • Annenberg Community Beach House – Easy beach access, splash pad, and plenty of space to play.

  • Malibu Creek State Park – Hike through scenic trails and take a dip in the creek (bring a swimsuit + towel!).

  • Holey Moley Golf Club – Mini golf with a twist. Fun for the whole family.

  • Underwood Family Farms – Pick your own fruits and veggies and meet the animals!

If you’ve got other family-friendly, outdoor Sunday spots around LA, send them our way—we’re always looking for new adventures.

This new Sunday rhythm has become one of my favorite parts of summer. It’s not about doing more—it’s about choosing what matters most and making space for it. And when that comes with sweet potatoes, sunshine, and a few extra hugs, I’m all in.
